So just what is the adobe photoshop filter and how can it be used to help you!

The photoshop filter presets and enables you to remove colour casts or re-colour images and picture creatively.

How can you find the photoshop filter ( image> adjustments> photo filter or filter> adjustments> photo filter in elements ). Once you have find this it enables you to apply subtle colour effects to any image, in must the same way as colour lens filters do when you are taking a photograph.

It adjusts the existing colour and tonal values of an image rather than apply a fixed tint value across all the pixels universally.

How to choose a filter?

Here are six simple steps to choosing a filter

1 - Choose between any of the preset filters or create your own effect based on a custom colour within photoshop.

2 - Click the colour swatch to open the colour picker, when it’s open you can also pick up colours from the swatches palette.

3 - There is a preserve luminosity box, you must tick this and this ensures that the image isn’t darkened or lightened by the application filter.

4 - There is density slide bar, this enables you to adjust the intensity of the effect. There is a default value which 25% and the best result are achieved below 70%

5 - In the filter screen you will have a preview option tick box, always make sure this is ticked.

6 - In the filter menu there are several photographic filter effects plus a wide range of other colour effects, and all of these can be customised using the colour swatch.
