Adjusting Colour Curves In Adobe Photoshop Elements 5

Adobe Photoshop Elements 5

Yes this is brand new feature in elements 5, this will give more control than levels over tones and contrast.

The older version of elements didn’t come with this feature of curves dialog, but elements 5 does have this feature (adjust colour curves dialog) you can find this under the enhance> adjust colour sub menu. Ok to use this you’ll need a colourful photo that looks a little flat, and overall brightness range lacks contrast to it.

Make sure you have this in standard form, the dialog offers a simple set of choices for to modify your photos appearance. You’ll need to click the arrow to open the advanced options panel, you then have the choice to darken any shadows by moving the slider bat across to the left and right, like I said one makes it darker and the other one makes it lighter. This will also steepen the midtones section of the curves.

Just these little adjustments alone will produce a useful contrast boost to your image .You still can go a little further by moving the midtone contrast slider to the left, this steepens the curve in the midtones section even more. The midtone brightness value can be left as it is.

You’ll find after all that, that you have increased the contrast and hence the saturation and vividness of your photo or image that your using, but without losing the shadows and highlights. This is something you can’t really do with the levels dialog, this control the brightness range but not the contrast within it. You’ll need to play around with this to get the best from it.
